Story Maker v1.10
(CD Version)
Welcome to Story Maker!
System Requirements
-------------------
486 or better PC with Windows 3.1, Windows 95, 98, NT or better.
Absolute minimum memory is 4mb, 8mb recommended
A Sound Card is required for sounds and speech.
Hard Disk installation
----------------------
This installation will install a minimum of files onto the
hard disk. These include the Story Maker starter files.
These starter files will take about 2mb of disk space. If
you are short of space you can delete them since they can
also be found on the CD. However, accessing them on the CD
is less straightforward.
Example Stories
---------------
The example Story Maker stories are not installed, but are
left on the CD. To access them from within Story Maker you
will need to use "Full Store" when opening a story and select
the STORY directory on the CD-ROM drive. If you wish to refer
to them frequently you can copy them to the STORY directory on
the hard disk.
Speech Editor
-------------
Story Maker comes with a very powerful speech editor. The speech
editor enables you to change the way that Story Maker pronounces
a word. The speech editor includes comprehensive help facilities,
so use the Help for further information on how to use it.
Adding Resources
----------------
Extra resources (sounds, backgrounds etc.) can be added to Story
Maker by placing them in special directories. Since you cannot
add them to the CD, they can be placed in the appropriate
sub-directory of STORY on the hard disk. See the Story Maker
manual and on-line help for more information.
To ensure that Story Maker looks in this directory a command
line parameter needs to be passed to the STORYM.EXE program
telling it where to look. This is of the form:
-yC:\STORY
The installation program will do this automatically - the
information is given here in case you need to recreate the
program item.
The Stamp Library Builder program allows you to build up libraries
of your own pictures or change the libraries supplied. A full
explanation of how to do that is given in that programs help.
Copyright
---------
All sounds and graphics supplied in the Story Maker package
are copyright. They may be used in conjunction with the
Story Maker program and may not be used for any other purpose.
Stories made using Story Maker may be freely distributed.
The Story Player disk provided as part of the Story Maker
package may also be freely distributed.
Uninstalling Story Maker
------------------------
Should you need to uninstall Story Makerlater you can do this using the
Uninstal program located in the STORY directory. On Windows 95, 98 etc.
you can also use Add/Remove programs from the Windows Control Panel.
